I’m Caroline Beall, DO

The Story Behind

Serenity Osteopathic Medicine

My path to specializing in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and chronic pain is rooted in my own journey to finding lasting relief for pain.

Sports were my passion growing up, until a devastating back injury in high school sidelined me.

Osteopathic manipulation was my saving grace and restored my ability to play volleyball and figure skate.  Every few years my back would lock up again, then OMT for the win, and I was back on track.

Then came the disc herniation, which compressed nerves coming from my spinal cord. The pain was unlike anything I'd known, far worse than prior broken bones and surgeries!

I experienced searing jolts of fire in my back and lightning down to my foot.  After a series of many epidural injections, the pain finally subsided. Epidurals offered temporary relief, but even after the disc healed, the pain lingered. Physical therapy, medication, manual therapy, electrical stimulation, activity modification  - I kept searching for a lasting solution.

And then I found pain reprocessing therapy and the chronic pain neuroscience work of Dr. Howard Schubiner and Alan Gordon.

I discovered that my brain had actually learned this pain pathway, much like it learned how to ride a bike, and was creating the pain over and over again.  My brain kept sending me danger signals (pain) because it never forgot the terror of that pain happening again someday.  By understanding the cause of chronic pain and applying the practices of pain reprocessing therapy, I have been able to take back agency in my life, and live free from the constraints of chronic pain.

The impact on my life has been transformational. Serenity Osteopathic Medicine became my way to share these healing gifts, helping others to escape the clutches of chronic pain and reclaim the joy of movement in their lives.
